There was a certain amount of routine that the King fell into in his day-to-day life, even with all of the impending change on the horizon. Where Queen Lady Serenity kept the kingdom running smoothly, it had been said that he kept the duties of the Crystal Palace from overwhelming her. Domesticity suited him and he found filling his time not spent in prayer with matters that often escaped his wife's attention to be a proper way to while away his days.
Yet at the moment, Helios found himself sitting by the koi pond. The peaceful atmosphere lent itself to quiet moments of introspection not afforded to him earlier in the day when he'd spent much of it going over documents relating to events that would be hosted within the Palace walls. There was always much to be done, but much more to do.
Even now, he knew, it was finally time to begin to actively search out the young women inheriting the powers of the senshi. In the past few weeks it had begun, and what came with it felt akin to an omen. Why such an awakening in times of relative peace, after all? There was little choice but to prepare for the fact that all too soon they might be needed in their true capacity as warrior maidens.
That was not a thought he found pleasant, but a necessity.
They needed to be gathered, be trained, offered all that could be given to them. That time, he thought as he watched the tranquil ripples of the water, would come soon.

Kiyoko had just gotten back from her weekly visit to her grandparents and as usual, the palace was a bit quiet. She knew that more than likely, this afternoon she would be training for Luna. She wasn't sad or depressed about it, in fact, she was excited about it. She loved being a senshi.
As she wandered out to the koi pond, she saw somebody sitting there and delight filled her as she realized that it was her father. She had always been a Daddy's girl and she probably always would be, but most of that was because she got spoiled by him, with him saying yes most of the time to her.
She picked up her pace, saying "Poppa!!" She threw her arms around his neck as she came up behind him and she said "I've missed you." She always said that even if they had probably just seen each other at breakfast time.
"What are you doing out here? Taking some time off from your duties? Are you being a slacker?" She asked, laughing and she stared up at her father.

So lost to his musings, Helios only made note of his daughter's approach when she wrapped her arms around him. A gentle smile curved his lips when she spoke, and he shook his head rather ruefully at her accusations.
"My dear one," he greeted as he looked to Kiyoko, a light humor coloring his tone of voice. "You have caught me at it, I suppose."
The admission was not completely forthright, perhaps, but it was completely honest. It was better to not enlighten her to his worries and concerns. At least, for this moment, she deserved what peace of mind was available to her in her innocence.
Too soon, it seemed, that might change.
"And yourself?" Helios asked, the words as much asking after what she might be doing as an open invitation for her to spend some time with him.

Kiyoko shook her head and she sat down beside him, saying "Don't be too lazy with your work, or else it'll pile all up on you." She knew from experience from when she had first started public school.
She stretched a bit and she stared at the water, smiling. She echoed her thoughts to her father, saying "Today is a very lovely day. I hope we have very many like this in the coming up year."
Of course, if she knew what was ahead of her, she probably wouldn't be saying that, but she didn't. She looked at her father, saying "Tell me a story about Momma." She had already heard a whole bunch of stories about her, but she still loved to hear more and more.

The light scolding Kiyoko offered brought a bemused expression to the priest-king's ageless face. All of the wisdom of a school-aged child offered to him, it might have been nostalgic if he were able to remember those long past days of his own youth. Likely not, the world had been a very different place back then, but it was still a wonderful little thought. He nodded, nonetheless, in concession to her words.
And it would be rather pleasant to see the weather hold, he had to admit. As Kiyoko joined him on the grassy shore to the koi pond, he hummed his agreement as he watched the gold and white fish swim lazily in the water.
"A story? You know you could always ask your mother, dear one," he suggested softly, though he'd certainly not deny her a tale. It was a little distressing, this phase that she was going through. While he adored his little girl, her insistence at acting poorly with her mother was something he did all he could to encourage her to get past.

Kiyoko stared at her father as he suggested that she go and ask her mother. She looked back out at the pond, not saying anything. She knew she could, but she was too shy to ask her mother, that's probably why she acted all at ends with her mother all the time.
She slowly shook her head, just knowing that he was trying to improve their relationship. She said "On a better thought, I better go work on my homework. I don't want to let it pile up. Plus I have some projects to finish."
With that, she stood up, placing a kiss on her father's cheek and she walked off, waving goodbye to him. It wasn't that she was mad at him, it was just that she had better things to do than listen to a story from her mom when she was rather shy around her.
