GIVE SADNESS A SAILOR SMILE
Whatever memories that I may keep with me,
I had the feeling that I will not turn away again.
BRING A MIRACLE, A SAILOR WING
Character Name: Mizushima Sayuri
Name Meaning: Water Island Small Lily
Senshi/Shitennou Name: Sailor Neptune
Age: 20
Birthdate: March 21st
EVERYONE CARRIES A SHINING STAR
Personality: When someone first encounters Sayuri, it's not too hard to figure her out. Sayuri may be calm and collected, but she certainly isn't shy. Nor does she hesitate to strike up conversations with people. Sayuri has mastered the art of idle conversation and she has many witty comments and phrases that she uses when awkward silence descends. While she is open to conversation and making new friends, Sayuri is also a very private person. It just comes from the fact she has two younger siblings and she got virtually no privacy while she was at home. Now that she lives in a dorm, her need for privacy and just a space to be herself is even stronger.
Despite the fact that she is so private, Sayuri is a very kind and generous person at heart. She feels that what she can't give in terms of words and secrets, she can give other things. Such as an open heart and a willing ear. Or five bucks when you need a ride on the subway. Small things, things that people usually take for granted. She has no qualms about giving up her seat on the train to someone who needs it or holding open a door for someone with a full load. Part of it is sheer politeness but the other part is her willingness to do things for people. For people that she knows well, this is especially true. Sayuri is more than willing to take the burdens of her friends onto her shoulders just so they might feel better. Sometimes it means people will try to walk all over her, but Sayuri is quick to tell them to back off.
You'll be hard-pressed to ever see Sayuri lose her temper. She's calm and cool as a cucumber and while she does get upset, she's very good at hiding it. Her mother taught her everything she needs to know about controlling her emotions and it's something Sayuri excels at. She's also so polite that she thinks losing her temper looks rude and uncouth. Put her in the middle of an argument and she'll be quick to sort things out. Get in her face and she'll calmly explain why you should move back as soon as possible. It takes a lot to shake her, but when it does, you'll be able to tell just from the sheer fact she won't act like herself. She'll actually start yelling if someone pushes her buttons hard and long enough to get a reaction.
Strengths: Accomplished dancer, polite, calm, kind, generous, has tea ceremony down to an art, and good conversationalist.
Weaknesses: Secretive, curry, moody, selfish in terms of sharing, almost too polite, and extremely private.
Dreams: Surprisingly enough, Sayuri doesn't want her mother's dream for her. She would rather focus her time and energy towards dance. Right now, Sayuri is actually attending Crystal Tokyo University to major in dance and the history of it. But her most important dream is to find a friend she can truly confide in and share her life with. She wants to connect with someone and she hopes that she'll find that someone soon.
Habits: Whenever she's uncomfortable, Sayuri has to keep her fingers busy. She taps them, twists them, plays with things, it's a dead giveaway that she's not happy. She also wakes up at the same time every day and has her own morning routine set. If there is anything that deviates from that routine, her entire day is off-kilter. Sayuri also practices her dance for at least two hours every day after school.
Likes: Dancing, colorful fans, her mother's kimono, rice candy, pocky, books, traditional music, loose clothing, hair accessories, and fashion.
Dislikes: Curry, sharing her dorm, math and science, English, rain, her father's work hours, her younger siblings, and bossy people.
History: Mizushima Sayuri was born the oldest daughter to Mizushima Koji and his wife Amaya. Koji was the manager of a small pharmacy store and Amaya had been an employee in her family's tea house until he had asked to marry her. When Sayuri arrived in the world, her mother was thrilled. Finally, someone to carry on the traditions she had spent her whole life learning. So, she began training her daughter at the noble art of tea ceremony. Koji was also supportive of his wife training their daughter since three years later, she gave him a son to carry on his own empire, a little boy they named Yoshiro. And then, two years after that, Amaya had another little boy, this one named Araki.
Things were peaceful in the household, until the day came when Sayuri decided to tell her mother what she really wanted to do. She wanted to dance. Ever since she was in elementary school, she'd been taking dance lessons on the side and was actually very good, having natural rhythm and grace. She especially liked the old-fashioned dances that involved a fan or two to illustrate a story and was quite good with them. Sayuri was working up the courage to tell her mother about her choice when her younger brothers beat her to it. Araki and Yoshiro relished tormenting their older sister, playing pranks and getting her into trouble. So they stole her diary and told her mother: she was going to quit. It was Amaya who confronted Sayuri with this information and Sayuri became furious at her younger brothers and never trusted them ever again.
By refusing to follow her mother's plan, she not only broke Amaya's heart, but alienated the one woman who had been her stalwart ally since she was born. Now that Sayuri wasn't going to work with tea ceremony, Amaya didn't know what to do with her. So, she latched on to the one thing they still had in common: the idea of being feminine and graceful. Amaya did her best to bond with Sayuri now that the girl was going to graduate high school and go on to college because she didn't want to lose her only daughter. So they bonded through dance, through clothes, and especially through tea ceremony. It became common for the two of them to sit at a traditional ceremony every evening after dinner just to relax and talk about things. With her mother doing the preparations of course. Sayuri vowed not to perform another ceremony as long as she lived.
Sayuri graduated high school and enrolled at Crystal Tokyo University. She now lives in the dorm because she refuses to stay in the house with her younger brothers. Her little brothers are still the terrors of the family, although Yoshiro is starting to settle down into his father's training. Things have been going well, even though she's still sharing a room with other people. Still, Sayuri secretly wishes to find a friend. A real and true friend whom she can confide in. Sayuri hopes she'll find that person at college someday.
TO TOMORROW, A SAILOR YELL
Elemental Power: Sea
Transformation Sequence: Sayuri holds her pen up in the air and calls, “Neptune Planet Power, Make-Up!” Once the phrase is called, the pen glows with teal light and explodes into a font of water that flows from her hand. The water lands below her feet as her body glows with teal light and suddenly erupts into a cerulean whirlpool that surrounds her. The whirlpool becomes transparent and you can see Sayuri's silhouette gracefully spinning inside of it. As she spins, teal light appears in various spots over her body forming her body suit, gloves, shoes, skirt, etc, until the whirlpool flows upward and away. Neptune slowly spins until she's facing forward and a flash of teal light forms her tiara. She holds out her hands and fonts of water shoot up from the ground and wrap around them. With a flash, the water disappears and in her hands are the Tidal Sais. Neptune crosses her arms over her chest, gripping them tightly, and spins around to strike a dramatic pose with a sea-like background behind her.
Uniform Description: Neptune wears a standard Senshi fuku in her own colors. For footwear, she has a pair of round-toed pumps in teal with a strap that goes back over her heel and another strap that wraps around her ankle. The heel is about three inches high and thin, which makes walking very interesting.
Special Items:
Henshin Pen – This is a simple teal wand, slender and with a cerulean orb at the top with the symbol for Neptune emblazoned in gold on the center of the orb. The stick of the pen is decorated with cerulean wave-like patterns that shimmer whenever it catches the light.
Tidal Fans – These are Neptune's primary weapons. The fans are lined with steel ribbing and the fabric stretched between them is cerulean in color, decorated with teal waves in varying shades. They're very heavy and have spikes at the ends of the ribbing, so they resemble the fins of fish when opened fully. Both fans are about a foot long when folded up and when they're extended, they're about six inches in width.
Attack Name: Shifting Seas
Description of Attack: Neptune calls out the name of her attack and opens her fans, crossing them over her chest. The fans glow with teal light, she uncrosses her arms, and swings her right fan across her body in an arc as the target is hit by teal light. The target suddenly feels as though he's rocking in the middle of an extremely stormy ocean. For those who get motion sickness easily, it's enough to make them sick. Even someone with a strong stomach will feel the shifting sensations. This is more of a psychological than a physical attack, but for someone with a weak will (and weak stomach), it works very well. This attack will last about two minutes and can be blocked with a strong mind and a stomach made of iron. Neptune can use this up to three times per battle but each time she does, the effects will weaken and the time decreases.

“Sayuri? Are you practicing?”
Sighing so softly she barely heard it, Sayuri paused in the middle of her practice and smiled. The door opened to reveal her father, home from work, and looking slightly ruffled. That was how Sayuri liked him best. When he left in the morning, he was always so clean and pressed. When he came home, he became her father. It's like how Mother puts on her makeup and kimono and she becomes so beautiful. It's amazing how simple things like a change of clothes or a bit of makeup can change one's entire perspective. She bowed as her father closed the door to the dance studio and knelt on a nearby cushion.
“May I watch? I do not see you as often as I like and since you are such a beautiful dancer, I do not think I should miss this chance.”
“Of course, otousama. I would be honored.”
Once again, Sayuri took up her dancing fan and tried to remember where she was at. Picturing the music in her mind, she began the dance over again just for her father. It was one of those rare moments where he spent time with her and she was thrilled that he was there. What a perfect way to end the day.
