GIVE SADNESS A SAILOR SMILE
Honey you know where the world is at;
Get what you want with your lucky eyes.
BRING A MIRACLE, A SAILOR WING
Character Name: Koekami, Bao-yu
Name Meaning: Precious Jade of the Voice God
Senshi/Shitennou Name: Sailor Arawn
Age: 17
Birthdate: January 20th, Capricorn-Aquarius Cusp, Born on the Day of the Freewheeler
EVERYONE CARRIES A SHINING STAR
Personality: Bao-yu is who you would call an opportunistic type of girl. She’s extremely personable, outgoing, social, and gets involved in heaps of extra-curricular activities that make her the prime candidate for the perfect student and friend. However, underneath the smiles and beguiles of everyday life, she has a sense of justice and pride that is a bit out-of-the-box in nature. Mix that with her cunning street smarts and savvy no-nonsense business tactics and you have a recipe for victory or disaster depending upon what side of the fence you’re on. Indeed, she’s quite the paradox of personas that makes it nearly impossible to determine whose side she’s on at any given time. Business and personal pleasure are all the same to her, and she’s sometimes known as “Demon Dealer Koekami” because of the way she performs favor-for-favor deals with people.
While she maintains a noble-esque quality because of her upbringing, she remains very down to earth when you engage in conversation with her. On occasion you can tell she has money to burn by the activities and business ventures she does for fun while at school or during festivals. Club fundraisers suddenly find themselves “padded” by an anonymous investor at all the right times for the most random reasons. But for the most part she adores the hum-drum of everyday public life, and as long as she keeps her parents happy with their demands then she’s free to make whatever choices she wants when it comes to schooling.
At school she is a very active individual within her peers. She’s Vice President of the Student Council, Captain of the Martial Arts Club for the WudangQuan group, President of the Young Business Capitalists Club, a History and Foreign Language tutor when needed, and always volunteers to be the lead organizer for the school festivals and special function events within her class. Through all of these activities she has built up a huge reputation for being the most reliable individual when it comes to organizing major events or tasks for the school. Not to mention that she has a bible-sized book of contacts of all kinds of people from her school friends to politicians and everything else in between. It’s rumored that she’s already betrothed to someone from an aristocratic background but not confirmed as to whom. For those who are a fan of the girl, this rumor has them all abuzz trying to find out who could be her possible suitor.
As Sailor Arawn, however, it’s a completely different sack of beans. When you encounter her in cloaked format, she’ll often introduce herself as the ‘Necromancer Arawn’. She’s a crafty trickster who finds great pleasure in meticulously finding the right weaknesses in her opponents and bringing them to their knees as hard as possible. There’s method to the madness of her actions, and ultimately you never can tell what her real objective is until it’s too late. Arawn will mock you with happy comebacks and amused smiles because she does not believe you come close to her level of skill on the battlefield, and she’ll make sure to let you know that in the most subtle of ways. All of her pent up emotions and desires play out in full as her senshi alter ego, and it’s a dangerous encounter if you accidently cross paths with her. Even though she’s less reserved, she’ll still play the game of being your best ally if it suits her end results. But if you happen to be under her wing, watch and learn all you can, for her tactics and knowledge make her a ruthless enemy and there is much merit in understanding someone of her persona.
To summarize Bao-yu in her entirety is hard, but she’s a labyrinth of emotions since so much of her is constructed by the way she was raised. It’s really hard to break her down and find the “real” Bao-yu underneath all of that pristine etiquette and infallible discipline. Heaven bless the person who’s ever able to bring out the aspects of her that could break her from her own citadel of masks and tricky illusions. While she does possess a true and noble heart somewhere in the depths of her innermost desires, it’s been imprisoned by her need to obtain as much power and prestige to try and free herself.
Alignment – Chaotic Neutral
Physical Appearance: Physically Bao-yu is an athletic 5’1” with dark skin, onyx black hair that’s pulled into two capped buns with tiny pony-braids dangling from underneath, and genetically altered aqua eyes. As stated earlier, the Koekami dabbles in scientific research, and genetic re-adaptation of the eyes was merely a tiny test of a much bigger project. Even her brothers are products of genetic alteration via hair or eye color which is why the children look nothing like each other. Her taste in fashion is top quality and widely diverse, you’ll find a myriad of designers from all over the world in her closet. But being the fact that she must keep a certain level of sophistication and class in her appearance, most of these clothes never leave the closet unless a special occasion calls for it. It’s not uncommon for her friends to be decked out in the latest and craziest apparel from her wardrobe without Bao-yu having ever stepped foot in them herself. When she dresses up, however, she dresses to the nines. As a representative of her family and company Bao-yu will be elegantly traditional in front of royalty, and deliciously modern in front of the businessmen. Other than basic ear piercings, she possesses no further markings, tattoos, scars, or requires any other special accessories like glasses to decorate her body.
Strengths: Her Chinese tutelage hails in WudangQuan Kung Fu with mastery in the Long Quan Straight Sword and the four primary styles of Wudan. The whole reason she returns to China is to heavily practice in this internal fighting style along with taking aristocratic etiquette training. Her family is a firm believer in training both the mind and body for impeccable strength and stamina for business and the representation of Japan and China’s relationship. Since Bao-yu is a woman, she is especially trialed to become the perfect symbol of an ideal wife. Bao-yu doesn’t believe that women are the weaker sex, so she plays the fool on purpose and takes advantage of an individual by being passive-assertive by nature. Because of this, her confidence rubs off well on other people, and her patient nature allows people to be comfortable despite her personal background. On a separate note, she speaks Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Korean.
Weaknesses: She’s a loose canon when it comes to moral or ethical behavior. She has her own sense of what’s right and wrong, and often times they don’t coincide with one another. Even though she’s emotionally distant from her family, she supplements her feelings through her friends and school activities. It doesn’t entirely bother her that she comes from a cold household, which makes her able to cut off her emotions to be completely uncaring to others with a smile on her face. In the end, however, she works alone and is alone despite all of the friends she has. Internally it gets her down when things aren’t going her way, but you’ll never catch her getting angsty over it. The darker sides of her are that of arrogance, narcissism, and greed. Bao-yu wants the best in life and will take it by force if she has to. She feels entitled to privileges and power worthy of her skill and persona, and doesn’t hesitate to find a way to obtain the things she wants even if it means the downfall of others in the process. Only those closest to her will be spared the rod if it’s in her best interest to do so. Secretly she believes she is perfection incarnate, her abilities as a senshi only fuel this thought process further, and her arrogance makes her an unflinching and diabolical opponent.
Dreams: Bao-yu intends on taking the family fortune by any means necessary. Being such an ambitious person, there are usually a handful of other projects and goals she has over the course of her life. But being the predominant representative and heir to the Zhao and Koekami fortune and business model is her ultimate aim.
Habits: She loves to dictate random words and sentences in different languages that she doesn’t know. Sort of how a Japanophile will add random Japanese words like “kawaii” or “neko” into their sentence structure at will; Bao-yu is notorious for doing the same thing with English, French, Italian, and just about anything else that she finds to be a catchy word or phrase.
Likes: Bao-yu loves creating new business ventures based off of her own personal skills and that of her classmates. She’s known to dabble quite a bit in things like cooking, fashion design, decorating, event planning, science ventures, and things of the social networking arenas. One can say that she’s a Type-A personality, always willing to get involved in things that promote the social status and financial gain of herself and those around her. Because she’s so open to new ideas an ventures, she adopts the motto of being willing to give anything a try once just to see what it’s like.
Dislikes: Party-poopers – Seriously, nothing burns her more than people who like to rain on her parade. The world is her oyster, and those who try to screw up her plans will find themselves on a bullet train to social hell if they’re not careful. Being a girl of specific upstanding environments, she also dislikes individuals who are ignorant or sloppy and careless. She doesn’t dislike “things” as much as she dislikes certain qualities in people. Those who don’t try to live up to their full potential really bug her, and there is little sympathy to give in that case.
History: Bao-yu is born a Japanese citizen through her father’s side, while her mother is of Chinese descent. When she was three she moved back to China for six years with her mother and grandparents while her father, Jun Koekami, continued to run his businesses without them. Afterwards she returned to Japan to live with her father and brothers in order to integrate themselves into the Japanese lifestyle. During the school year she lives in Japan but during holidays and breaks she goes back to China. Bao-yu’s parents married for business merging reasons in order to strengthen their economic resources in both countries. Between the Koekami and the Zhao families, there is an approximate several hundred billion dollar estate in textiles, military research, and tourism that put Bao-yu in the upper echelon of high-society.
Her childhood has been that of privilege and extreme responsibility, which means she has lived an extravagant, yet, extremely strict lifestyle. While it’s not hard to realize why people are jealous of her monetary means, a lot of them fail to realize that her father regards her with little care or respect. She may as well be a servant because that’s about the level to which her father verbally communicates with her. Actions are expected to be followed out, and failure is not an option. Refusal to obey ends in being disowned from the family. Indeed, the few people who actually know the Koekami family would describe them all as “frigid.” Bao-yu is actually the most personable of them all both in forced requirement and the fact that she’s naturally an extroverted and unflinching individual. With some meticulously constructed words, and numerous conversations, Bao-yu managed to convince her father to live in her own “apartment” near a public school that is close to Crystal Tokyo. As long as she acted as a predominant representative of the Koekami company to the royal family, she was granted permission to have this small freedom granted to her.
It hasn’t been until recently that she discovered the unique powers of Sailor Arawn. A year ago just before she was to start her Junior year at school, she took a trip to the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan. Her grandmother, Kimiko, prophesized that there Bao-yu would find an inner power and knowledge to her true destiny in life. Not being the superstitious type, Bao-yu disregarded the words and simply performed the dutiful service of honoring her grandmother’s demands. While meditating at the shrine, she mysteriously came across a pen-like object that seemed to trigger an unexplainable desire to know more about it. With the power of Sailor Arawn in her possession, she dedicated her spare time to discover some of the innate abilities within her newly granted skills and practices arduously behind closed doors. Still hunting for a purpose as to why she came across something of this nature, she plots how she will be using it for her own goals.
Family - Jun Koekami (Father, 57), Xiang Zhao (Mother, 42), Ichiro Koekami (Eldest Brother, 23), Yi Min Koekami (Youngest Brother, 12), Jia Li Zhao (Grandmother), Guang Zhao (Grandfather), Yasuo Koekami (Grandfather), Kimiko Koekami (Grandmother)
TO TOMORROW, A SAILOR YELL
Elemental Power: Death & Silence
Transformation Sequence: Thrusting her hand up in the air, she shouts “Arawn Mirror Power, Make-up!” while her nails glimmer a light lavender color the transformation pen appears and the sign of Arawn spins from the tip. The pen morphs into a lavender ball of energy which she throws down into the ground summoning a myriad of black souls to engulf her body from head to toe. They eventually form a large Grim Reaper type cloak with demonic wings in full spread before the shape bursts away into a hundred little ghosts revealing Sailor Arawn in full regalia.
Uniform Description: Arawn’s uniform colors are a lavender and pale yellow off-set by the Mirror’s raven colored fuku base. The design of the fuku is extremely simple and utilitarian due to her no-nonsense fighting style. Too many bells and whistles get in the way of her movement, so her suit reflects this level of activity. Her shoes are like Dock Martin boots in lavender laced all the way up to the top which comes just under her knees. The skirt, collar, and circular broach retain the lavender color while her ribbons and accents are the yellowish hue. Her gloves are a bit different in the sense that they are fingerless so that she’s able to grip things better; but her senshi powers mask any traces of fingerprints and thus, do not leave them behind. The unique thing that happens when Bao-yu transforms into Arawn is the change in her hair. It retains most of its onyx black tones, but the cut changes as her long hair that’s often tucked into the buns and pony-braids shortens out into a bell-flare style with two thin braids protruding from the back. The tips of her shortened hair transition to the lavender color while the tiny braids go from black to pale blond near the end.
Special Items: Transformation Pen – Changes Bao-yu into Sailor Arawn.
Long Quan Straight Sword (Songreaper)– Her weapon that she uses to attack with in conjunction to her martial arts techniques. It is utilized to perform her attack, the Dance of a Thousand Souls, and is actually a physical manifestation of her Senshi Star Seed. Usually when she’s severely weakened or defeated the sword will fade away. If the sword is shattered, however, she will die.
Attack Name: Dance of a Thousand Souls
Description of Attack: Arawn holds her sword straight up and places two fingers horizontally against the hilt shouting “Find the mark!” An orbital astrological chart glows underneath the target and two sets of ghostly hands sneak up through the floor and hold the individual down. Once they are locked into place, she scribes the kanji for ‘Soul’ (Tamashii) with her sword while shouting “From the depths of the Underworld I summon you…” Ghostly shadows appear around her during this time as each stroke is created. When the full word is scribed she makes one final slice to shatter the kanji and shouts “Dance of a Thousand Souls!” The ghosts lunge forward and swarm at the target like a tidal wave performing spiritual attacks on the person’s soul. While it doesn’t perform physical damage, this technique is an extreme drain on an individual’s energy. Against a regular person it can be lethal depending on the circumstances. It’s a limited use technique which is why Arawn is more inclined to engage in physical combat as opposed to magical first.
I WILL CATCH IT, THE SAILOR STAR

An amused smile formed upon her mouth as she heard her partner in crime declare his visual appeal with dramatic flare. She always found him to be intriguing in that sense. Unabashed by vanity in its more verbose mannerisms; secretly she too hoped that one day she would be able to be so vocal about her feelings of superiority. But for now it would have to remain behind the scenes, letting her actions of dignity speak louder than any words she could muster of gloating.
As it was before when she had an audience with the King, she perched herself with delicate posture upon the seat as she painted the magnificent illusions upon herself. This was a masquerade, after all, and tonight she could go all out with the pomp and circumstance since it was technically a requirement to such an event. Her costume matched that of her mask. The physical style of the dress itself was 18th century European flair mixed with Asian tapestry that encompassed the golden butterfly visage. It was a blend of modern tastes with old world imagination. Bao-yu felt like the Empress herself from so long ago as she placed a pair of golden winged hairclips to the side to pin her ebony locks up into place. The magic of make-up glittered and shimmered in the waning sunlight as her aqua eyes darted here and there to make sure that her look was pristine.
Indeed, both individuals would probably be out shining their escorts tonight, but that really didn’t matter given the thrill of the upcoming night. “The door is open,” she said with a happy tone jingling in her voice as she finished up the last of her embellishing minstrels. Turning around to see her friend, she anticipated his own costume since she had gotten only a slight glimpse of it when he came over a little while ago. Limousines would soon be on their way to pick up them and their dates. Each would take their own to travel, but for now the two got to enjoy the time together. Not to mention plan their evening under the guise of good intentions. Bao-yu was internally giddy to see what would transgress tonight. The pen tucked away at her sleeve, the key between her bosoms hidden away from public view and carefully guarded. There would be no solace tonight.
“I feel sorry for our escorts already,” she replied wryly, “Never choose a sparrow to lead a phoenix to its duties.”
