"Brrrr". Was it extra chilly out? Or was she just a wimp when it came to cold weather. The air did seem to have a certain nip to it. Yuzuki glanced down at her little girl, who seemed warm enough in her too-big jacket. Her grandmother had insisted that she would grow into it, but for now the little girl looked comical is the puffy yellow coat. Yuzuki kneeled down to adjust a few buttons Hinata had paired wrong. "You look like a little yellow marshmellow, Chickadee!" she teased then froze. Tiny foot steps behind her, she could hear their gentle padding. Orion?
Yuzuki turned quickly, to see a ratty orange stray, staring her and her child down. Not Orion at all, but good enough for Hinata. "Kitty!" she lunged for the animal, who took off in terror. Hinata raced after it, shrieking and giggling. "Hinata, no! He could be sick!" Yuzuki stumbled to her feet. Holy crap, she thought, half the time the kid fell over walking through the living room. How'd she learn to run so fast?
She hurried after the child but, unlike the tiny tot, she couldn't weave between legs in the crowded street, and had to fight the swarm of people, oblivious to her plight.
"Self-centered bourgeois bastards..." she mumbled, then realised she couldn't even see her child, "Hinata!

Himeko frowned as she walked out of another store empty handed. Every since the masquerade ball had been announced the blond had been searching high and low for a costume, but she hadn't found anything she remotely liked. Usually shopping was her favorite hobby, today it was just getting on her nerves. Maybe I should call someone to help? Himeko thought, as quickly pulled out her bejeweled phone. Only to find out she had put it on vibrate sometime during the day.
Himeko quickly flipped the phone open, only to see a message stating she had a missed call. The blond pressed a button on the phone and Yuzuki's name showed up. That's strange, I don't think she ever called me before. The teen thought as she decided to return the call. Hopefully Yuzuki would answer.

Yuzuki had begun to panic. Her little girl was somewhere in the crowded street, alone, and she didn't know where. She paused to look through the crowd, and called ehr child's name. Why did no one stop to help her?
Hinata should be scared and noisy at this point, she thought, unless she's found something which is keeping her interested. Yuzuki crouched to see the swarm from the little girl's perspective. What could be so captivating that it could keep an almost-two-year-old content in a swarm of strangers? She hoped it wasn't that raggedy stray cat.
Her phone began to quiver against her hip and Yuzuki pulled it from her pocket. Without looking at the screen she flipped the phone open and pressed it to her ear.
"Hello?" her voice was small and scared, like a child, but she was to distracted to notice.

Himeko was happy that the older girl had chosen to pick up after the first two rings. The blond hoped she wasn't interrupting anything important. After all she knew that Yuzuki was always busy taking care of her daughter.
When Himeko first heard the childlike voice on phone, the teen assumed it was Hinata. Ever since she had seen the little girl at the mall, she had been hoping to get a chance to talk to her.
"Hey Hinata-chan, It's Himeko. Can you hand the phone over to your Okaa-san please." The blond said sweetly. If only she knew how wrong she was.

The response threw Yuzuki for a moment. Hinata's mother? That's you, dumbass.
"This-" she paused. She didn't realize how small and strained her voice was until that moment. Yuzuki coughed sharply. "This -cough- this is Yuzuki," she pulled away from the phone and glanced at the screen. Himeko.
Yuzuki's reason for getting a hold of the younger girl went out the window and she immediately switched goals. Maybe Himeko could help find the little girl she thought she was speaking to.
"Are you downtown, right now?" she pinned the phone between her ear and shoulder as she fumbled through her bag for a cigarette, "if you're not, head down here, right away," she paused again, heaved a reluctant sigh and added "please"

The blond was shocked to find out the person she had thought on the phone was actually the child's mother. "Sorry Kiyomichi-san," Himeko began apologizing to the other girl. "I feel like a total idiot right now." By the sound of Yuzuki's voice, it was obvious the single mother had other things on her mind.
Himeko listened as Yuzuki asked her if she was downtown. "I'm in midtown right now, but I'm a few blocks away from the downtown area. Tell me which intersection you're on." The blond replied, pausing for a second. There was something about this situation that was bothering her. Normally she wouldn't let these things bother her, but she really wasn't in the mood to have Orion follow her around again. After all as long I look like I'm supporting Kiyomichi-san, maybe they'll stop pestering me about fighting with them. Himeko thought placing her plan in action.
"Is something wrong Kiyomichi-san, you don't sound too well?" Himeko asked as she started to make her way downtown. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"I'm on..."Yuzuki wasn't at all sure where she was, "I'm right in front of the big white shopping center," she craned her neck to see the sign, "Viva, I think its called."
Could Hinata have gone into the shopping center? It wasn't likely she could open the heavy doors, she had to be close by. Maybe she was closer to Himeko. "Hinata's run off, she was chasing a cat. She just... disappeared into the crowd. Keep an eye out..."
The women who stood to open the doors had seen nothing, and Hinata could not have opened them alone. Ok, she was outside, Yuzuki reassured herself, then panicked again. Outside where there were cars and potentially thugs who might take a small child away!
Once again she began frantically calling her child's name. "Hinata! Heeenaataaa!"

"I think I know where that is Kiyomichi-san." Himeko told the older girl as she started to run towards the direction of the Shopping Center. "I should arrive in ten minutes."
"Hinata's missing!" The blond exclaimed, once Yuzuki told her the news. Everything was beginning to make sense. No matter the older girl hadn't seemed like herself. "Have you called the police yet? I'm sure they could help."
"Don't worry, I'll make sure to look for her on way over." Himeko reassured the upset mother, before she quickly scanned the crowd. But the little girl was no where in sight. Who knows what sort of trouble the child had gotten herself into. She listened as Yuzuki's began screaming her daughter's name on the other end. The blond decided to do the same.
"Hinata!" Shouted Himeko, "Hinata! Where are you!"

It was official. The cat was gone. Hinata sighed melodramatically and turned around to go back to her mother. Confusion crossed her chubby face and furrowed her little brow, perplexed. Her mother wasn't there. Did she leave her? That didn't seem like something Mummy would do.
She looked down at her little white sneakers, brand new from the trip to the mall where she had met that funny brown-skinned girl. The shoes were now scuffed and a splatter of mud marred the baby-blue laces. The slight frown became an all out scowl. This day was clearly ruined. Her mother was missing and now this.
She heard her name being called, but it came from either side. That was strange. Well, no use exerting herself, Hinata dropped to the ground, sitting on her diapered bottom, waiting patiently for someone to take her home.
Yuzuki pushed through the crowd. She could see a blond head bobbing towards her. Himeko? She heard her child's name echoing back from the direction of the blond, so it had to be the other girl.
